Four Tribesmen Aotearoa gang members have been jailed for the death of Mark “Shark” Hohua, who was fatally beaten in a “hotbox” punishment after spending gang funds without permission.

In the High Court at Hamilton, president Conway Rapana and sergeant-at-arms Te Patukino Biddle received life sentences for murder, while vice-president Heremaia Gage and member Ngahere Tapara were sentenced for manslaughter.

The fatal hotbox beating took place at Rapana’s property in Waimana, Eastern Bay of Plenty, in June 2022.

Justice David Johnstone said the “hotbox” practice was “wrongheaded, unnecessary, and dangerous.”
