Advocacy group GE Honesty has criticised Associate Minister for Organics Mike Butterick for downplaying proposed changes to gene technology regulations.
Butterick described claims of a gene technology ban as “a myth” and said the HSNO Amendment Bill allowed for more efficient chemicals.
GE Honesty argued the Bill would give the EPA new powers to determine which organisms were regulated, while introducing vague terms such as “significant effects”.
