Hamish Cooper, a seasoned New Zealand diplomat with four decades of experience and former ambassador to Japan, Russia, and Turkey, has been appointed High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, replacing Phil Goff.

The position became vacant in March after Foreign Minister Winston Peters dismissed Goff for publicly criticising US President Donald Trump during a London event, calling his continued role “untenable.”

Goff, a former Labour leader and Auckland mayor, had served in the role since January 2023. Peters praised Cooper as highly qualified for the prestigious diplomatic post.

  1. The problem with politics is
Anybody with a brain steers well clear
Not wanting to become a hypocrite and a liar
Consequently semi submerged turds float in under the radar
Aggravated by MMP which exasperates and inflames the situation
Which everybody was brain washed and coerced into accepting
As being the instrument to fine tune in producing hung parliaments
And King makers come Court Jesters
