Government consults on tighter rules for natural health products

MicrosoftTeams image 4

The Government is consulting on a regulatory system for natural health products, including supplements and herbal remedies.

The Ministry of Health said the aim would be to improve safety and quality while maintaining consumer choice and access. Options included product registration, tighter manufacturing and labelling rules, and updated requirements for health claims.

The proposals raised questions about how much control regulators will have over products bought without a prescription, and the impact of extra compliance costs.

Submissions close 2 November. Have your say at Health.govt.nz and read the consultation document.
