The Government has announced a $150,000 relief package to help communities in Southland and Clutha recover from the Labour Weekend storms that brought widespread power outages and some flooding across the lower South Island.
Emergency Management Minister Mark Mitchell said the funding includes $75,000 for Southland, $25,000 for the Clutha District Council Mayoral Relief Fund, and an additional $50,000 contribution from the Ministry for Primary Industries to assist rural recovery.
Mitchell said the support responds directly to requests from local leaders and will go toward welfare, clean-up efforts, and building community resilience.
“This significant weather event has caused prolonged power outages and damage across the region. The Government’s contribution will help communities bounce back and meet immediate needs,” he said. The storm has been officially classified as a “medium-scale adverse event”, unlocking additional assistance for farmers and growers, including potential tax relief and Rural Assistance Payments.
150 thousand dollars in aid for the lower South Island of New Zealand. 150 million dollars in aid for the crooked regime in Ukraine.
Considering the amount of money central and local government wastes, this is an insult to everyone who suffered losses.
Yes, 3.5 million dollars for corporate-consultant fees with 65% of the peanuts 150G to go to lgbtq groups for replacement rainbow toilets and 30% to iwi officialdom for new personal plates on their audis with the remaining 5% to IRD
What a pitiful amount Mitchell!
At least the climate-emergency/catastrophe- causing farmers with their evil
methane-belching cows are all gonna get donated a medium-sized plastic
glad-bag of staples each to fix their fences
150k is utterly insulting, wtf is he thinking of?
That’s about 2 bucks each!
