
Two of the victims killed when a landslide struck a home in Pāpāmoa have been identified as a grandmother and her grandchild, state media has reported.
Police recovered two bodies from a property on Welcome Bay Road on Thursday after a slip came down in the early hours, damaging at least one house and forcing nearby evacuations. P
Emergency Management Minister Mark Mitchell confirmed the fatalities in an interview with Australia’s ABC.
Elsewhere in the Bay of Plenty, concern remains high as several people are still unaccounted for after a major landslide swept through a Mt Maunganui campground, crushing campervans and a shower block shortly after 9.30am.
