Green MP Benjamin Doyle resigns citing death threats and abuse

Benjamin Doyle resignation news

Green MP Benjamin Doyle has announced his resignation from Parliament effective October 3, citing death threats, abuse, and concern for his family’s safety.

Doyle, New Zealand’s “first openly non-binary MP”, said he was leaving with pride but acknowledged politics still has work to do to be “inclusive”.

“After having baseless and violent accusations thrown at me, and an onslaught of hate, vitriol and threats of real-world violence directed at me and my whānau, I have decided to move on from Parliament,” Doyle said in a statement published on the Greens’ website.

The former teacher from Hamilton entered Parliament in 2024 after Darleen Tana’s departure.

Doyle will be replaced by former Christchurch city councillor Mike Davidson.

  1. Sad to hear that he has suffered abuse, but he put his hand up and it’s a hard world out there. Still, he’s no great loss and will now have time to contemplate the real world and not the fantasy one the Greens are known for. Bye. 👋

    • Uncensored Twitter comments calling someone out for the icky choices they make (as well as the failed and stupid communist beliefs they hold) does not constitute “abuse”. These lefties always howl about abuse and “death threats” whenever they’re challenged even 1% on any of the stupid sh*t they say. Contrary to what they believe, it’s not “abuse” when someone disagrees with them. People are allowed to have different opinions, no matter how badly these idiots want to try and legislate or censor that problem away. When this douchebag and others like him whine about “abuse”, it needs to be taken with a MASSIVE pinch of salt, perhaps even the whole shaker. You certainly shouldn’t feel bad about it.

      • He must have only resigned to take the focus off him. I’m thinking further investigations will turn up some pretty sick stuff that even the Greens don’t want to be associated with.

  2. As a tax payer I heartily thank any politician from the mainstream who resigns…so come on National, Labour, etc, aren’t some of you tired of the job, thinking of greener, quieter pastures……?
