A 36 year old man has pleaded guilty today to the murder of Hamilton woman Ngawai Himiona.
The crime took place on 16 December 2020 in Himiona’s house in the suburb of Nawton.
The man has continuing name suppression.
Details of the offending were made public today. Himiona, a mother of four, suffered a broken nose from an assault by the man earlier that day.
At around 9.15pm Himiona had been speaking on the phone to a 111 operator. The man became angry when he learned of the call. He took a boning knife from the kitchen and stabbed her 17 times on the upper body. Her four month old baby was asleep between her legs at the time, while her four year old child witnessed the crime. Her two older children were not in the house.
Emergency services arrived but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man is to be sentenced on 31 August.
