Hastings police seek witnesses to serious assault

Police in Hastings are appealing for witnesses after a serious assault on Roberts Street left a woman hospitalised with head injuries.

The incident occurred around 10:55 a.m. today, prompting multiple 111 emergency calls from bystanders who saw a man attacking the woman. Before fleeing the scene, the suspect reportedly pointed a firearm at witnesses.

The victim is currently receiving medical treatment, and police are offering her support.

Police believe the suspect is known to the victim and are actively working to locate him.

Senior Sergeant Kevin Stewart confirmed that police are pursuing several leads and have increased their presence in the area. Police are particularly interested in speaking with those who witnessed the assault, some of whom were seen filming the event.

Anyone with video, photos, or information related to the incident is urged to contact police either online or by calling 105, referencing case number P060269218. Anonymous tips can also be provided through Crime Stoppers at 0800 555 111.
