The High Court has struck down the ban on new puberty blocker prescriptions for under-18s with gender dysphoria.
Health Minister Simeon Brown based the ban on a Ministry of Health review that found “a lack of good quality evidence for the effectiveness or safety” of puberty blockers.
Justice La Hood accepted Brown had “a rational basis” to restrict the drugs, but ruled a blanket ban was unjustified discrimination because some clinicians warned it would raise the risk of self-harm.
The UK indefinitely banned puberty blockers for under-18s in March 2024.
Family First said the court “sided with activists who want to chemicalise gender-confused young people”. NZ First Leader Winston Peters demanded an immediate appeal.

Real cases of gender dysphoria are extremely rare, in most cases these days it’s because some looney leftist member of the education system or the medical profession or even their crack pot parents have convinced vulnerable children that they can forget reality and should believe whatever they are told. Legal system in this country is indeed a joke.
When I was a young girl, I didn’t want to be a boy, I wanted to be a pirate. I am sure I could have found someone in the medical profession to take off a leg, poke out an eye and give me a parrot.

That sets a precedent which is hard to ignore, so even though the High Court is wrong, they are consistent with the fake democracy government’s decision making process.
