Prime Minister Chris Hipkins confirmed today that he will meet his UK counterpart Rishi Sunak Friday evening NZ Time.
A statement from Hipkins said talks were primarily to advance the Free Trade Agreement in place between the two countries.
Other topics will include NZ’s working holiday scheme, the NATO-Russia conflict in Ukraine, and the UK’s role in the Pacific.
The meeting will take place while Hipkins is in London to attend the coronation of Charles III.
Hipkins will also convene a ‘high-powerered’ roundtable discussion on ‘climate change’, as well as a visit to NZDF personnel training Ukrainian troops near London.
The ‘climate change’ event will have a ‘particular focus on adaptation and the resilience of horticulture and agriculture in the wake of Cyclone Gabrielle,’ said Hipkins.
‘Participants will include Lord Deben, the UKs Independent Committee on Climate Change, and former British High Commissioner to New Zealand Laura Clarke who is now the CEO of ClientEarth, an environmental law organisation.’
Rounding out the trip he will hold bilateral talks with the Prime Ministers of Tonga and Canada.
