A homicide investigation is underway following the death of a woman in Cambridge overnight.
Emergency services were alerted to the woman’s death at around 1:20am.
An address on Richmond Street was identified as an address of interest and on arrival, a woman was located deceased at the property.
Police are making enquiries to locate the alleged offender, including in the wider Te Aroha area.
‘We want to reassure the community we have a number of staff dedicated to locating the offender and there will be an increased Police presence while these enquiries are underway,’ said a statement from police.
‘We continue to advise members of the public to report any suspicious behaviour immediately to Police on 111.
‘A scene examination is currently underway at the Cambridge property and further information will be provided when able.’
Update at 2.45pm
Police have arrested a man in Te Aroha in relation to the Cambridge homicide.
‘We are speaking with the man and an update on charges will be provided when able,’ police said in a statement.
‘Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to this incident.
‘We know this was a distressing incident for our Te Aroha and Cambridge communities and we want to thank them for their understanding while we made enquiries to locate him.
‘A scene examination at the Richmond Street address is continuing.
‘The community should expect to see an increased Police presence while staff continue the investigation into the woman’s death.’
