Police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a woman in Newlands on Saturday morning.
Emergency services were called to Gahagan Way at around 4am, where the woman was located deceased inside a property.
“Police are currently speaking with a man, who is assisting with our enquiries”, said Detective Inspector Haley Ryan.
“A scene guard is in place, and residents can expect to see an increased Police presence in the area as enquiries continue.
“There is not believed to be any risk to the public following this incident.
“As part of our enquiries, we’d like to speak with anyone who has any information, or witnessed any suspicious activity in the area overnight.
“Additionally, we’re interested in any CCTV or dashcam footage from Gahagan Way, or surrounding streets, including Newlands Road and Stewart Drive, between 12pm Friday and 5am today.
“Anybody with information is urged to contact Police via 105, either over the phone or online at 105.police.govt.nz, referencing the file number 260919/1067.”
