A Bay of Plenty host father, Napoleon Eketone, was sentenced in the Tauranga District Court after pleading guilty to indecently assaulting a teenage overseas exchange student entrusted to his care.
The teen, who arrived in New Zealand “full of hope,” endured repeated unwanted touching and an attempted late-night encounter in the garage, leaving her fearful and distressed.
Her mother described the incident as devastating for the family, prompting an urgent flight to New Zealand.
Judge Paul Geoghegan called Eketone’s actions a “gross breach of trust” against a highly vulnerable victim, and while noting his previously clean record, imposed a sentence of six months’ home detention with six month’s post-detention conditions, plus reparation of $4877 to cover the parents’ travel costs.
The judge stressed the need for deterrence, particularly for those hosting international students.
How many other pedos are lurking below the surface?
Yet to rear their ugly heads

That’s far too light for something like this. If I were her parents I’d appeal and seek civil reparations. Image this poor girl alone in a foreign country with this creeper. Its beyond awful and every parents worse nightmare.
That’s effing disgraceful. That poor girl. And now the rest of the host family has to deal with such despicable actions. Rotten.
Disgrace to the country. This is every parents worst nightmare, having a child on the other side of the world, and subject to these types of pedos.
