Northland Police were called to reports of human remains being found at a Waiomio property yesterday afternoon.
Police were called to the Waiomio Road property just before 4pm.
“A scene guard has been in place overnight and Police are working to recover the body this morning with the assistance of Land Search and Rescue”, said Detective Inspector Michele Gillespie.
“The circumstances surrounding this death are currently unexplained, and Police are now working to establish the full circumstances of what has occurred.
“The identity of the body is not yet known and Police will be making a number of enquiries to establish that.
“The property will undergo a scene examination today, and a post-mortem examination will be carried out.
“A further update will be provided when more information becomes available.”
