An investigation is underway after a sudden death at a residential address in Haruru falls, near Paihia in Northland, in the early hours of Satiurday morning.
Emergency services were called to the property about 4.25am, after a report that a man had been found unresponsive.
He was pronounced deceased a short time later.
His death is currently being treated as unexplained, and a post-mortem examination will take place today.
“A 56-year-old woman was arrested at the scene in relation to events that preceded the man’s death”, said Detective Inspector Rhys Johnston.
“She has been charged with assault, and is due to appear in the Kaikohe District Court on Monday 24 August.
“Further information will be provided when it becomes available.”
