The Israeli embassy in Wellington has shut down as part of a global closure of Israel’s diplomatic missions, citing recent security developments.
This follows Israel’s airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and military sites and Iran’s retaliatory drone attacks.
The Wellington embassy, which also serves several Pacific nations, suspended all consular services and issued safety warnings for Israelis abroad.
Deputy chief of mission Yael Holan defended Israel’s actions as self-defense against what she described as “Iran’s near-complete development of nuclear weapons” and accused Iran of targeting civilians, while Israel claims it struck only military and nuclear targets.
The duration of the embassy closures remains unspecified.
