A large fire at a scrap yard in Otahuhu has been contained and firefighters are working on hotspots.
People are advised to stay away from the area and anyone living nearby should continue to keep doors and windows shut to avoid being exposed to the smoke.
Fire and Emergency received multiple calls about the fire, which was first reported shortly after 10pm. A large number of crews were still at the scene early this morning.
The number of crews, trucks and specialist appliances has been scaled back.
As at 1am three crews remained at the scene dampening down hotspots and a presence will be maintained overnight.
An investigation into the cause of the fire will be carried out.
Roadblocks remain in place to ensure the safety of crews operating in the area, and the public. Please respect any “closure” signs in the area.
