Paul Goldsmith will take on responsibility for the Media and Communications portfolio, while Louise Upston will pick up the Disability Issues portfolio, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon announced today.
“Our Government is relentlessly focused on getting New Zealand back on track. As issues change in prominence, I plan to adjust Ministerial responsibilities to make sure we are best set up to deliver for New Zealanders.
“It has become clear in recent months that there are significant challenges in the media sector. Similarly, we have discovered major financial issues with programmes run by the Ministry of Disabled People.
“I have come to the view it is important to have senior Cabinet Ministers considering these issues.
“There are significant synergies between the Arts, Culture and Heritage portfolio and Media and Communications – as such, I’ve asked Paul Goldsmith to take the lead on media issues for the Government.
“The challenges facing our media are being seen all over the world. While there are limited levers for Government here, I look forward to Paul progressing work to ensure regulatory settings are appropriate to enable the media to modernise and adapt to a changing media environment.
“The Ministry of Disabled People is a departmental agency within the Ministry of Social Development, so I have asked Louise Upston to take responsibility for the Disability Issues portfolio. This will free Penny Simmonds up to focus on the Environment portfolio and the major changes she is progressing to improve tertiary education.
“Given the changes, Melissa Lee will move outside of Cabinet. Climate Change and Revenue Minister Simon Watts will move into Cabinet.”
The Prime Minister has advised the Governor-General to give effect to the changes today.
It must be remembered that under the John Key National Government, there was NZ$30 Million set aside and earmarked for Special Needs Education and associated / affiliated support.

Indigo children- I’ve heard about this and have studied the scenario, but oftentimes the ‘goals of the Indigos’ is to effect a New Age change in humanity.

As a former child savant, my specialty was spacecraft. Even went to Space Camp in Alabama and finished the Space Shuttle simulator course that my parents paid a good sum of money for. Ended-up with a ‘Shuttle Commander Certificate’ but…no job offers.
I hold a Masters Degree in Aviation Technology from an online Uni, as I could not cope with the classroom environment, lecture halls, noise, lighting…etc. but…no job offers.
Currently living with my parents which statistically appears to be, unfortunately, permanent for those like me on the spectrum. At least I’m not on the dole, but 78% of those on the Autism Spectrum are, and are stuck forever in Council Flats, if not out on the streets!
I would like to try and get a Private Pilot Licence, but the CAA Medical Rules forbid me from that…but the sound of an aircraft engine is soothing, especially when I hear the same thru my headset.
For now I have an instructor who comes to my parent’s home and she helps me with Microsoft Flight Sim, (she’s a CFII) and I have even gone to the actual sims at the flight schools here. I was able to fly with my instructor on several occasions, and I overcame my unique and very acute senses to trial a few actual supervised flights, but this will not lead me to a career.
I now work from my parent’s home doing data entry, paying them room and board, but if when they pass on and I inherit the family home, I will not be qualified for any benefit according to Luxon.
Then, there’s the real danger of having my home stolen via the courts via seizure, forfeiture, and judges who may rule me to be incompetent!
Then a court-appointed guardianship is enacted to remove me from my inherited home, at which point the ‘Guardian’ would sell my home out from underneath me, with the guardian keeping the proceeds from the sale of my rightfully inherited home! Those in the legal system would get a rewarded cut of the sale for instigating the violation of my Human and Civil Rights as a disabled person!!! And the NGO’s who are in the lucrative business of supporting Autistics actually don’t…they are part of the problem!!!
