Rugby Australia has posted a $A36.8 million ($NZ39.6 million) loss for 2024, driven by the costly integration of Super Rugby teams and the collapse of the Melbourne Rebels, adding to the financial strain after a $A9.2 million loss in 2023.
Despite the deficit, the result was reportedly better than expected, with CEO Phil Waugh expressing optimism about a future surplus in 2025 due to the British and Irish Lions tour.
RA spent over $A15 million restructuring its domestic teams and managing the Rebels’ exit, while test matches against Wales and Georgia brought in significantly less revenue than previous fixtures.
RA also continues to service an $A80 million private loan and plans to announce a new Wallabies coach soon, with Les Kiss tipped as the likely replacement.
