Luxon denounces Washington attack

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has condemned the armed security breach at a Washington DC press event attended by Donald Trump.

Trump, Melania Trump and other senior figures were escorted out of the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner after a shotgun-wielding man attempted to force his way through security.

According to US reports, the suspect — identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from California — told authorities he intended to target someone linked to the Trump administration, though it remains unclear whether the president himself was the intended target.

During the incident, a United States Secret Service agent was shot and taken to hospital. Trump later said the officer was in strong condition, crediting a bulletproof vest for preventing more serious injury. Authorities are treating the case as a lone-actor attack, with multiple charges expected to follow.

In a statement posted to X, Luxon said he was relieved that Trump and other attendees were unharmed, praising the swift response of security personnel. “Violence has no place in our democracies,” he said.

  1. Really? I don’t recall his condemnation of the minab school bombing. Or kidnapping a head of state. Or of the US-Israeli attack on Iran which is damaging the economies of the world

    • “Masculine republics give way to feminine democracies, and feminine democracies give way to tyranny.”– Aristotle
THEY just love THEIR democracy so much.

  2. “Violence have no place in our democracies” yet he’s approving billions to the violent regime based in the Ukraine – oh right, the Ukraine is now run under a dictatorship, eye roll…

    • Yeah, I think he means the violence belongs in the regimes of the US and Israels enemy. Not in their oh so perfect democracies. The ones where all the Israeli population decided to genocide its neighbours. oh wait, no that was satanyahu and Katz and gvir

  3. Sure Luxon, violence has no place in our democracies. Only the state is allowed to be violent eh? Like the parliament protest violence eh Luxcon?

  4. Violence is OK when “democratically (s)elected” governments use their state-protection force (aka the police) to do it.

  5. He wants votes man. Lols kiwis are so sucked in! Get a life and go overseas to see the NZ is nothing but a tiny Pacific island that no one knows about. Seriously no one cares about this Pacific island! And kiwis do the same thing, thinking things will change. Insanity. Look at the deluded person who thinks NZ loyal would stand an chance if we all voted for it. OMG it is insane and it keeps posting all the time. That is how weird this country is!
