Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has announced $16 million in new support for Ukraine, reaffirming “New Zealand’s solidarity” ahead of his attendance at a NATO summit in the Netherlands.
Luxon condemned Russia’s “ongoing invasion”, describing Ukraine’s war as a fight for self-defence, and emphasised the importance of standing up for “shared values” despite New Zealand’s geographic distance from the conflict.
He said Ukraine would be a key topic at the summit, alongside tensions in the Middle East, as New Zealand commits both military and humanitarian aid to the war effort.
