Court staff told legacy media the man had been granted diversion, according to a report by RNZ.
The defendant, described as a ‘young man from Gisborne’ was seen repeatedly punching an elderly woman in the head in video which circulated widely on social media following the Posie Parker #LetWomenSpeak rally in Auckland earlier this year.
He was charged with common assault and was given interim name suppression.
Speak Up For Women spokeswoman Suzanne Levy told RNZ the court decision to grant diversion was part of a ‘dangerous cultural shift’.
‘We extend our aroha to the victim and we will not stop our public opposition to radical gender ideology.’
According to the Court Registrar, a further report on the man’s ‘diversion scheme’ will be available on 9 October.
