A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering former Conservative MP and Brexit Party MEP Ann Widdecombe after the 78-year-old was found dead with serious injuries at her home in Devon.
Police arrested the suspect in nearby Newton Abbot and said he remains in custody while detectives continue forensic examinations, CCTV reviews and house-to-house inquiries. Investigators have stressed the case is still in its early stages and remain open-minded, with no evidence at this stage suggesting a political motive or confirming whether the suspect knew Widdecombe.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation and instead provide any relevant information through a dedicated major incident portal, while tributes have been paid by political figures from across the United Kingdom.
Our ‘leaders’ get very antsy when they suffer like the plebs do. They are a protected species. It isn’t supposed to work that way.
