Police have arrested a man in connection with the fatal stabbing of an Auckland man in Mt. Wellington, Auckland on Friday afternoon.
The man has been charged with murder and several other offences, and is expected to appear in the Auckland District Court on Monday.
Detectives say the investigation is far from over, with officers actively searching for additional individuals believed to have been involved in the attack.
The victim arrived at a medical centre around 12.15pm on Friday with critical injuries. Despite urgent medical care, he later died at Auckland City Hospital.
Detective Inspector Scott Beard of Auckland City CIB said investigators have worked long hours over the weekend to progress the case, with a significant focus on identifying and locating all offenders. Police have been canvassing areas around Harris Road and Laud Avenue in Ellerslie, where the suspects’ vehicle was found abandoned.
A major CCTV review is underway, alongside scene and forensic examinations at multiple locations. Beard said police are still seeking witnesses and pursuing every available lead.
“The violence, especially at that time of day, is concerning,” he said. “We’ve dedicated substantial resources to track down those responsible, and we know the community has many questions. We’re working hard to get those answers.”
Police are asking anyone — particularly motorists with dashcam footage — to come forward. Information can be provided via the 105 reporting line using reference 251205/6107, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
