A Porirua resident was shot in the legs after confronting two people trying to break into cars on Dimock Street in Tītahi Bay on Monday night.

Police responded to the scene around 10:20 pm, finding the man seriously injured, and he was taken to the hospital.

Nearby residents reported hearing four gunshots, some initially mistaking them for fireworks.

  1. I assume the culprits were not licensed gun owners or that the fire arms are registered?
Making it harder and alot more expensive to be a legal responsible gun owner isn’t going to stop these criminals. A minimum 10 year non parole for crimes that fire arms are used in,to be served separate to any other charges or conviction would be a good place to start
