Mark Lundy, twice convicted of murdering his wife and daughter in 2000, will be released from prison next month after serving over two decades.
The Parole Board granted the 66-year-old’s release under strict conditions, including electronic monitoring, bans on alcohol, internet use, and entering certain regions like Manawatū, where the killings occurred.
Lundy continues to maintain his innocence and is awaiting a Criminal Cases Review Commission decision.
Psychological assessments rate his risk as low, and supporters have offered him a stable home. Despite parole, Lundy could be recalled to prison at any time.
I think that Lundy got into a bad business deal with one of the more violent gangs, perhaps without knowing it at the time, and when they demanded come-uppance, the gang(s) went to his home, only to find him not there, and the gang instead murdered Lundy’s wife & child as pay-back.
It could be also that new fresh evidence has emerged over time, hence the reason for parole until the new evidence can be examined with modern forensic tools.
