Two more Michael Hill stores suffered ‘smash-and-grab raids’ this weekend, continuing a series of robberies at the chain over the past two years.
The latest incidents occurred at the Bayfair shop in Mt Maunganui and the Silverdale Mall store on the Hibiscus Coast. In the Silverdale incident, a young person armed with a hammer was arrested after activating a fog cannon in the store and fleeing towards Auckland’s Northern Motorway.
Despite this the company remains confident in its security measures, highlighting that the attempted robbery in Silverdale was thwarted by armoured glass displays and fog cannons.
CEO Daniel Bracken told State funded legacy media RNZ the company was continuously reviewing its measures to protect staff and customers. The measures include smash-proof glass, additional fog cannons, alarm screamers, personal alarms for staff, and DNA spray technology.
At least 21 Michael Hill stores had been the target of aggravated robberies or ‘smash and grab raids’ over the last two years, all in various locations around the North Island.
Thieves are now targeting public shopping areas (Bayfair at the mount this afternoon) because they think they have the upper hand.
No consequences.
Police will stop chasing them if they go fast.

Beef it up all you want- the crims will find other ways to rob, steal and assault the so-called ‘security’ specialists…!
This is why business owners, shop keepers, dairy owners, etc. need to be armed for protecting themselves, their businesses and their customers who could become ‘collateral damage’ in the event of a crime being committed.
David Seymour and his ACT Party member who is ‘Pro-Firearms’ needs to get off his ass and do what he said ie- getting rid of the Firearms Registry, and then repealing the Firearms restrictions (ie semi-autos, MSSA’s, & handguns that the last WEF / WHO / NWO communist government under Jabby did in violation of Chapter 7 Article 51 of the UN Right to Self Defence).
Rubber bullets work wonders on would-be robbers, as do shotguns with salt loads.
