Michaela Barriball gets 17 years prison for murder of Malachi Subecz

27 year old Te Puna woman Michaela Barriball will spend at least 17 years in jail for the murder of 5 year Malachi Subecz.

Malachi died on November 17 last year in Starship Hospital as a result of severe injuries from abuse suffered while in Barriball’s care.

At today’s sentencing in the Rotorua High Court, it also emerged that Malachi was placed in Barriball’s care with the consent of the mother whilst she served a sentence of imprisonment. Barriball and Malachi were not related.

The majority of abuse took place in a cabin located on land owned by Barriball’s father near the Bay of Plenty settlement of Te Puna.

Malachi was known to State agency Oranga Tamariki, who have launched an investigation into their involvement in Malachi’s care.

  1. I hope this vile animal rots in prison for the rest of her wretched days and burns in the fires of hell. Medieval torture would still be too good for her. Inhuman filth.

Why did the court not take into account that the biological mother had a small child before sentencing? Where the hell was the father?! Why couldn’t the boy stay with his aunt and cousins? Why didn’t the murderer’s father or boyfriend (who both were aware of the abuse) do something to stop it?! Why haven’t THEY been changed as accessories? This was a vicious and terrible crime, there should be some fuckin righteous retribution against EVERYONE involved, so that others out there who enjoy knocking innocent children around maybe think twice.

Every single person in this child’s life and all of the protections of our wonderful little society FAILED HIM.

    Shameful.

  2. What a monster. That poor boy. By all accounts his mother isn’t too flash either as she is reportedly in jail which is why the wee boy was put in the ‘care’ of this monster living in a cabin, not a fit place for a child. What the HELL was Oranga Tamariki (or whatever they are calling themselves these days) doing???? Maybe if they spent less time changing their letterhead they might actually help some kids.

The sentence is a long one yes but I do wonder why she gets 17 years and the idiot who crashed the car and killed 5 friends gets only 2 years?

Just sickening all around though isn’t it? ????

Rest In Peace to all those who have been taken far too young at the hands of people who had no value for other human life.

  3. “Malachi was known to State agency Oranga Tamariki, who have launched an investigation into their involvement in Malachi’s care.” Well, that says it all. The Police have an “independent” authority to investigate them but Oranga get to investigate themselves.

Maybe we should get H&S to do the investigations – they ALWAYS come up with convictions.
