More yellow-legged hornet queens found in Auckland as search ramps up

Several more invasive yellow-legged hornets — including two additional queens — have been discovered in Auckland, along with two small nests found just 100 metres apart in Glenfield, the same hotspot as earlier detections.

One nest contained a queen, workers and emerging adults, while the other housed a single queen, bringing the total number of confirmed queens to nine.

With the species posing a serious threat to honey bees and wild pollinators, MPI has intensified its response, deploying over 20 field staff, checking more than 180 traps daily, adding protein bait stations, and launching public awareness efforts.

Authorities are urging residents to report sightings only when they have a specimen, clear photo or confirmed nest location.

Any reports of sightings of the hornet can be made on the MPI website or by calling Biosecurity NZ on 0800 809 966.

An awakening sign or even early Karmic payback for even the thought of NZ having a hand in mass civilian killings?
