A man has died after arriving at a Mt Wellington medical centre with critical stab wounds, prompting police to launch a homicide investigation and lock down multiple scenes across the suburb.
Police say the man was rushed to Auckland City Hospital in a critical condition but died later that afternoon.
Detective Inspector Scott Beard of Auckland City CIB said early inquiries indicate the victim was involved in an altercation on Harris Road earlier in the day.
“During this altercation the victim has sustained stabbing injuries, before both parties left the scene,” Beard said. The victim later sought help at a medical centre.
Police located the vehicle believed to be involved on Laud Avenue in Ellerslie, and cordons have been established at both locations. Scene examinations are under way as investigators work to piece together what led to the violent confrontation.
Beard said officers are speaking with local residents and that Mt Wellington can expect a heightened police presence in the coming days.
