Names of victims of recent road tragedies released

Police have released the names of the victims of recent road tragedies around the country.

Serious crash, Peria

The names of the two children who died following an incident in Peria on Friday 29 December can now be released.

They were Sonny, 6, and Eddie, 4. Both boy’s deaths have been referred to the Coroner.

The family has asked for the media to allow them to grieve and prepare for their funerals.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Fouhy, Far North Area Investigations Manager, says Police were called after the ATV-style vehicle rolled into a swimming hole in the Waikainga Stream about 5.15pm on 29 December.

The following day the bodies of the two deceased were recovered.

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to whānau and friends of these two little boys at this difficult time.

“This can only be described as a tragedy and we extend our condolences to everyone involved.”

Fatal crash, Tunnel Road

Police can now name the two people who died in a crash on Tunnel Road, Christchurch, on 30 December.

They were 35-year-old Babe Wihongi, and 55-year-old Patrick Anngow, both from Linwood.

‘Our thoughts are with their families and friends, and Police are providing support to their next of kin at this tragic time.

‘The investigation into the crash is complex and it will take time to establish a complete picture of what occurred that night.’

The victims’ families have requested privacy as they come to terms with what has happened.

Fatal crash, Lower Kaimai

Police can now name the two people who died following a crash on State Highway 29, Lower Kaimai on 28 December.

They were Josephine Wilson, aged 28, and Piripi Chase, aged 31.

‘Police extend our sympathies to their families and loved ones at this difficult time.’

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

Fatal crash Tauhei

Police can now name the man who died in a crash on Tainui Road on Tuesday.

He was 68-year-old Peter James Kiely, from Hamilton.

‘Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.’
