Napier teen to be farewelled as police continue hunt for killer

A funeral service will be held today for 15-year-old Kaea Karauria, a Napier teenager who was fatally stabbed during a violent incident in Onekawa early last Sunday.

Karauria, described by his schools as a talented, respectful, and passionate student, will be laid to rest at Moteo Urupā following a service at Napier Boys’ High School.

Police have launched a homicide investigation and are appealing for public information, but no arrests have been made.

Authorities have dismissed unfounded rumours of gang involvement, emphasising that Karauria’s family has no gang ties.

A dedicated team of investigators is working to identify those involved.
