Stuart Nash has resigned as a New Zealand First election candidate due to fallout over remarks he made about National MP Katie Nimon’s maternity leave.
NZ First leader Winston Peters confirmed the resignation late Wednesday.
Nash defended his comments as being about commitment and performance rather than parenthood, maintaining respect for working parents and pointing to Labour’s record on extending paid parental leave, but the backlash ultimately brought his candidacy to an abrupt end.

Can’t say i disagree. You want kids as a woman resign when your on the public tit let alone in a job since most businesses aren’t large.6 months is a long time off work while still being paid nice work if you can get..Seems voicing your thoughts is frowned by a bunch of beta white knights
If you’re a candidate for a fake democracy uni-party party you must toe the party line. There is no room for debate or free expression of alternative opinions. The party rules. The party dictates what can and cannot be said (which doesn’t mean the party is going to do what it says).
Party politics is the problem, not the solution.

Amazing is the breastfeeding scenarios in Parliament with different times and politicians…remember when breast milk squirted-out and went all over the podium and onto another MP???
You either become a dedicated MP or a dedicated full-time Mum. Very few women have the privilege of having help with childcare during a ‘career’ either from a relative, or a hyper-expensive child care centre, with a minimalist-offset from the government which I no longer take due to who the childcare centres answer to based on ‘who’s paying’…!

Firstly, I’m not surprised to hear a male is fired for criticising a womans work ethic.
If Winston is so concerned about parent time with children he should review the complete shambles the family has become.

The man showed himself to be a Stuffwit during his time in the Jacinda government cabinet. He hasn’t changed.
