Drag queen reading group Rainbow Storytime has decided to cancel its upcoming nationwide tour of the country.
The tour, which was scheduled for later this year, has been called off due to protests, leaving the owner of the group devastated.
Destiny Church leader Brian Tamaki has been at the forefront of the protests against Rainbow Storytime, causing disruptions at events in Rotorua and Hastings. Last month, both the Hastings District Council and Rotorua Lakes Council cancelled three events altogether, citing safety concerns and the spread of ‘misinformation’.
According to organisers, the planned shows aimed to promote inclusivity and acceptance by having drag performers read stories to children. However, widespread protests, including an incident in Gisborne where a rainbow pedestrian crossing was painted over with white paint, have led to the tour’s cancellation.
In a statement on Facebook, Rainbow Storytime NZ said they were disappointed over the cancellation, citing the current climate and logistical issues, including one of the drag performers, ‘Erika Flash’, staying in London.
Rainbow Storytime NZ founder Sunita Torrance, declined to comment to media on the cancellation.
Brian Tamaki hailed the cancellation as a ‘victory’ on social media.

Further to this I witnessed the horrors unfold of the online bullying of Wilson Gavin who took his own life, at one point he was alive then he disappeared, extremely sad.
He was protesting Rainbow Storytime.

If the rainbow people were genuinely interested in entertainment why don’t they take their shows around the rest homes? It’s a disgrace that only Destiny Church is doing something about this and the other churches never say a word. Good on Brian Tamaki and his wife and congregation.
