Nearly half of Western voters say democracy is “Broken”: Major poll

Democracy poll news

A new Ipsos survey of nearly 10,000 voters across nine Western nations has found that 45% believe democracy in their country is “broken,” with majorities in seven nations dissatisfied with how their political systems function.

France recorded the highest disillusionment at 60%, followed by the US (53%), the UK (51%), and Spain (51%).

Respondents cited corruption, disinformation, unaccountable politicians, and the rise of extremist parties as the biggest threats to democratic stability, while only Sweden and Poland showed majority confidence in their systems.

The study also found that most people expect the situation to worsen over the next five years and feel increasingly unrepresented by national governments, fueling demand for radical political change.

  1. To break this down.

    1. Parties choose their leaders and voters get to pick from that list.

    2. If you are the leader of a party, under MMP you are automatically voted in if your party receives just 5% of the vote.

    3. Even if the vast majority of the public are against legislation, it is ignored.

    4. Political leaders and parties push through legislation they never campaigned on.

This isn’t even a shade of democracy.

  2. Government is supposed to represent the will of the people. Yet policies are pushed through that the public does not want. Moreover, these unwanted policies are often simultaneously advanced across much of the western world (at least the Anglosphere). Who is really in charge here?

  3. On a bike trip we once met an employee for MPI, working under David Parker, ex Labour communist MP. My shock at hearing that his MO from day one was to start applying thumb screws to the farmers community was unbelievable, at least initially. Apparently he told the staff “let’s make these guys suffer”.

  4. Look no further than New Zealand and Australia, two of the worst examples I can think of. They simply take ZERO notice of what people want. Just look at the TPPA and now this Gene Tech Bill, that absolutely no one asked for with 97& surveyed public opposition! In Australia they have horrific, draconian, hate speech laws, that would make Hitler envious, that. once again, no one asked for. Are they accountable public servants, of course not! All they care about is themselves and their internationalised sponsors.

  5. You will take the vaccine, you will eat the GMO, we will not tell you what is GMO and what is not, you will follow Net Zero, you will embrace Mass Migration, you will have no weapons, you will not be able to defend yourself, you will be careful what you say, you will not take the paste, you will not treat yourself with alternate treatments or off label medicine,,,,,,,,,,

  6. I think if a 1/4 of the people want something they should have it. I think if 51% of voters dont want something and 49% of voters do then it should not stop such a large amount of people having something just because a slighly larger amount dont. People should be free not to have something without forcing others not too.
