New website encourages Kiwis to push back against council charges

Council Accountability website launched
councilaccountability.org.

Quantity surveyor David Baker has launched a new website designed to make it easier for Kiwis to challenge council costs and hold local government to account.

Baker set up the site after he noticed council fees and delays were pricing homeowners out of the market and pushing builders to the wall. “It just grinds my gears when we see people in council just throwing six figures of costs away, and builders in the private sector are having a really hard time,” he told RCR’s Paul Brennan.

Baker is urging anyone unhappy with council pricing to visit the site and lodge a concern. Listen to RCR’s interview with David Baker.

  1. This is great. Our council needs an audit of spending and wastage. Plus we need to know exactly how many staff and what their oles are because I bet the council would function better with half of them gone. So over paying such exhorbitant rates. The cpu cil don’t provide a service unless you call gate keeping or ticket clipping a service.

  2. Not before time. These council parasites are out of control, just like central government with its endless taxes, which is all rates really are.

  3. Great news!
However, let’s not forget that the tax/revenue burden has been shifted to LOCAL government, who is bound by CENTRAL GOVT rules to take what formerly was extracted by central govt.
    And TAKE they do!
The insufferable bane of self-serving and self-propagating bureaucracy near and wide -infiltrating every arena of thought and discussion- is an indomitable cadre of hapless pedants, each wielding a false pretense of servicing the public. Parasitic self-assurance and un-fathomed ignorance never cares about the host.
    They run free.
Woe upon us that they, so ill-equipped with respect for the producing public, deign to commit themselves to our salvation. With self-important scullery and delusional missionary complex, they suck restlessly, yearning to replace the various masonry of solid foundations and structures of producers and savers with the particular cancerous socialistic notion that -self-propelled- has enabled their obtruding sticky-beak existence of grandeur, serving thejr ol’ boy corporate masters.
And that’s my utmost polite way of describing the local and national PARASITIC MAFIA.

  4. Rates on a $1.5M AUD house in Adelaide $2500 AUD approx per annum. Rates on $1.5M NZD house, Wellington 10000+ NZD per annum!!! Let that sink in. And National and its friends have kicked pegging rates to inflation down the road till 2029!!!!!!!

  5. It’s 2026, with all the insanity in the world being pushed by globalist interests and their puppets I should be allowed to self identify as some one who does not have to pay rates or tax. So sick of being ripped of by useless politicians who have never my whole voting life represented me, for if they had we would not be on the brink of a wef/un/globalist agenda.

  6. I knew a NZ councillor who went on a six week trip, business class of course, to Europe to study fish farming, I wonder what that cost and what the result was.
