A Northland man with an extensive criminal record has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for assault with intent to injure following an incident at a children’s rugby training session in Whangārei.
Lindon Matthews took offense at another parent’s look, approached him, and threw several punches, dropping the man to the ground in front of an audience of children under 10.
Despite his claims of remorse Judge Gene Tomlinson remained unconvinced, telling Matthews at his sentencing this week to ‘grow up’ and learn to walk away from confrontations.
The judge also warned Matthews of the potential generational consequences of his actions, telling him that if he didn’t change his ways he would be dealing with his children in the future unless he ‘broke the cycle’.

We see this s*** all of the time; massive amounts of testosterone and adrenalin, the Alpha male profile (a bully…) and the need to dominate others and scenarios in all situations.
The wives and kids are beaten on a regular basis, and the dog kicked!
Usually, they have a bald head (shaven), sometimes a beard to look Satanic, wear tank tops in the summer and hoodies in the winter, and always offer non-verbal and verbal threats to others.
Sometimes they vape…
They drive Ford Rangers or Toyota Hilux’s and bully-boy themselves in traffic!
Their arrogance and rudeness is part of their make-up!
This is why we carry a ball bat in our back seat, and a ball-peen hammer in the passenger seat pouch.
Those instruments aside, I can pre-empt anything that they present to me in physical form.
As a former Combat Veteran, I have no need to prove myself with such an assumed profile or social role as does the bully-boy who has never grown-up past the High School Rugby Field- and you can bet that in a Combat situation, these are the types who would be the first to cut and run!!!
Look for me (the Veteran of several wars…) in your malls, coffee shops, and sandwich shops. I’m usually the quiet, unassuming type, minding my own business, and not engaged in pushy behaviours, Rugby teams, monetary bets or scores!
While I agree in general with your comment, it is NOT only men/fathers/boyfriends.
Men/fathers/boyfriends are brought up by women, and nowadays increasingly single mothers and their ‘single woman’ associates. And it’s obvious why they are single.
I guess everybody has seen scenarios where the mothering is of such derogatory nature, that one feels the need to be careful how to intervene mistreatment of children because of the uncouth imposing nature of these units.
Culture? Race? Their own upbringing? Multi-generational beneficiaries?
Sadly, most of these units have no self-awareness and no shame. And sadly, their general dissatisfaction and disfrenchise is highly infectious. It is an everlasting circle, obvious to everybody.
It takes a whole village to bring up kids.
