NZ-India FTA slammed as ‘sell-out’ after claims of Kiwi job losses and migration surge to NZ

Criticism of the NZ-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) has intensified after comments made by India’s Trade and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Trade Minister Todd McClay raised concerns about jobs, migration, and investment commitments.

A reporter asks what level of employment the agreement would generate. Goyal responds by pointing to New Zealand’s existing Indian population, stating it will cross from 360,000 “to 400,000 very soon,” and suggesting more students could come due to labour shortages. He also highlights opportunities for New Zealand companies to utilise lower-cost labour in India under the agreement.

McClay, responding to questions about trade mechanisms, says New Zealand exporters could send food products to India tariff-free if they are processed there before being re-exported. He describes this as consistent with how “modern trade agreements work.”

Questions were also raised about a reported commitment for up to USD $20 billion in New Zealand investment into India. McClay says the government is committed to promoting that level of investment and supporting New Zealand businesses to engage with Indian markets.

Critics such as @2ETEKA on social media slam the arrangement as disproportionately benefiting India while undermining local industries and businesses, drive capital offshore, and increase migration pressures from India, “National, Act and Labour have thrown our kids future on an Indian funeral pyre.”

  1. It’s all a continuation of the Lima Declaration of 1975 whereby the “west” de-industrialises and facilitates the rise of “third-world countries”.

This has been going on for a while, but now it looks like the “west” (globalist elites with their sock-puppet administrators “leading” in various “western” “democracies”) is going to try to re-balance China – who is getting away from them – with India.

  2. We were planning to leave, this makes the decision even easier. Anyone voting for the globalists is letting themselves and everyone else down.

  3. So National and Labour BOTH deindustrializing New Zealand, making it impossible for industry and manufacturing because of the climate green hoax, then selling out our jobs to indians. Vote NZ First to end this madness.

    • Prices for pretty much just about everything is considerably less in Australia – unless you go bush, the further out you go the higher the prices for a much more limited selection of stuff. And the jobs are more plentiful and better paying. Not perfect by any means, but less of basket-case than NZ, and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of good options out there,

  4. My husband is the only reason I am here still. if he dies before me, first thing I will do is sell up and leave… anywhere is better than here with the traitors we have running (ruining) this country…It will be lost for ever if they allow this… who on earth will buy NZ products if they are exported first to India then India does something, God knows what, to these products and then re-exports them…are they then going to be labeled product of NZ? or just another “from Imported ingredients” from who knows what and where? NZ is being destroyed further this time with both Luxon and labour…what a bunch of globalist traitors this lot of Nats and ACT have turned out to be..next thing you know you better learn Indian Culture so as an employer, you can make sure you don’t upset someone from India who might be working for you… and letting NZ employ them paying them peanuts, further lowering our living standards… have had enough… Peters for PM… it’s our last chance…

      • I think I am in Afganistan the II here…. it’s certainly on it’s way down the toilet…no leader or party worth their salt during my time here…. name one… eh….just one…that has sat in this parliament and done anything to put this country right…no…it’s constantly going under the globalists direction each and every move these traitors make…
