New Zealand Outdoors & Freedom Party (NZOFP) leader Sue Grey has written an open letter to Science, Innovation and Technology Minister Judith Collins, calling for the Government to immediately stop progressing the Gene Technology Bill.
In the letter dated 10 November 2025, Grey — a biochemistry and microbiology graduate, and lawyer — said the proposed legislation was “strongly opposed by almost all sectors of the community” due to its potential impacts on public health, food sovereignty, the environment, and the economy.
Grey argued that there was a “huge disconnect between the hopes and aspirations about what gene technology may achieve and the real-life challenges, risks, uncertainties and resulting consumer resistance.” She claimed the Bill’s main backers were those seeking to control the food chain and scientists with financial interests in the field.
“The New Zealand public has consistently been strongly opposed since consultation decades ago,” Grey wrote, adding that there was “no social licence” to release gene technology into the nation’s food chain or environment.
Grey also lodged an Official Information Act request seeking copies of all advice, Cabinet papers, cost-benefit analyses, and international reviews provided to Collins regarding the risks and impacts of gene technology. She requested information on the health, environmental, sovereignty, and economic implications, as well as data on pesticide use, consumer acceptance, and food labelling of genetically modified products.
Drawing on her past correspondence with Collins during the former Attorney-General’s tenure, Grey warned of the dangers of ignoring alternative perspectives in policymaking. “It is very important to take advice from different perspectives, to identify and address assumptions, before making decisions that may affect us all,” she wrote.
Grey concluded by urging Collins to ensure that the public interest — rather than “the aspirations of a few” — guides the Government’s decisions on genetic technology and the future of New Zealand.

97 % of Kiwis are against that bill.
This bill seems to be a political suicide decision, where opponents of that bill will go down in history as heroes and will quite likely have a developing career as representatives of the people.
Message to Sue Grey:
Please form, together with other small opposition party leaders, a general assembly of all minor opposition parties in order to provide a ‘grand coalition’, so that us people have a chance to unhinge the quasi uni-party and stop their autocratic power.
This country cannot afford the luxury of ideological nit-picking with a dozen -5% parties sucking up the people’s votes
Personality culture and ego will have no place in the coming political struggle.
For us it’s survival.
Sue Grey has been properly notified with regards to the above idea and need to form coalitions.
Judith Collins is sure acting like a traitor to this country along with all the WEF bought off national cronies, including Luxon.
By the time the sh*t hits the fan Collins will be long gone
Leaving NZ to deal with the after effects of this bastard illigitimate child
All designed and engineered to fit hand in glove with the after effects of fake vaccines
NZOFP and Sue Grey – that’s who I’ll vote for
👍
Govt is not representing NZers who are against this bill and there are huge numbers against it. Sue Grey is spot on with her concerns and govt should not have the authority to ignore what the vast majority demand. If govt. and this includes ALL in Parliament who vote for this, it will be because it is not listening to us, but to someone else. WHO…It will also mean that in its current form, govt is not fit for purpose and has to change.
Ask (AI Alter ) The NZ Gene Tech Bill is there a sinister agenda behind it is there any conflicts of interests if so who are they is blackrock or Bill and Melinda Gates foundation involved is there a lot of dangers that have been ignored or overlooked what will the future consequences if the bill is past https://alter.systems/
It’s a valid sentiment, however it’s rather late in the piece to issue this open letter Sue. That boat sailed well away before the select committee finalized its report. The cynic in me says this is politicking. At least you’re still playing the game I guess…?
Never too late! The decision makers in govt have ignored all of us (including Sue) regarding the Gene tech bill. Critically important to keep up the resistance from all angles, call it politicking if you wish as long as we never give up
Ro Ka is correct. Collins does not consider the well being of kiwis or this country one bit. Her sole motivation appears to be SABOTAGE on behalf of the despicable globalist agenda 2030 and to this end she ignores the requirements of kiwis across the spectrum.
The only thing that’ going to stop this is voting National out next election. As for you NZOFP you need to stand on your own, your associates support of Israel isn’t, in my view, a good look.
your associates support of Israel……can you elaborate
When our lives. Are threatened and we have no voice we will be coming for you the people of NZ said no to the Gene Tech bill honour. That.
Jeez, the evil is attacking from all sides. They are losing. Keep fighting for nature and commonsense kiwis!!!
