Parents raise concerns over school-hosted gender diversity workshop

Parent group Let Kids Be Kids (LKBK) has been made aware of an email sent to Wellington High School (WHS) families, announcing a school-hosted workshop on “gender diversity” – covering genderaffirming social and medical options for young people up to 18 years old.

In a press release LKBK said the three presenters named in the invitation are not independent health educators.

“Every one of them is a registered member of PATHA – the Professional Association for Transgender Health Aotearoa – the activist organisation currently waging a court battle against the New Zealand Government’s puberty blocker ban.

“Three things every parent needs to know:

  1. The presenters are PATHA-aligned advocates, not neutral clinicians. Dr Kayla Mackie, Dr Rona Carroll, and Jemima Bullock are each deeply embedded in PATHA’s clinical, political, and legal infrastructure. Between them they have co-authored national guidelines designed to make hormone treatment more accessible to minors, participated in the Ministry of Health consultation process on puberty blockers, and lobbied publicly against the Government’s restrictions on these interventions. This was not disclosed to parents in the invitation.
  2. The Government’s puberty blocker ban exists – but is currently frozen by PATHA’s litigation. Minister of Health Simeon Brown enacted regulations banning new puberty-blocker prescriptions for minors in November 2025. PATHA filed a court injunction two days before it was due to take effect and succeeded in halting enforcement. A full judicial review hearing took place in the Wellington High Court on 6–7 May 2026. A ruling is pending. In the meantime, the gender-affirming care pathway for children and adolescents continues uninterrupted – and PATHA’s members are now appearing in school libraries.
  3. The curriculum hasn’t changed – and the lobby isn’t waiting. Education Minister Erica Stanford has described the current RSE curriculum as “problematic” and committed to replacing it. That replacement is now not happening until 2029. An OIA obtained by Let Kids Be Kids revealed that back in December 2023, the Ministry of Education quietly stated there are “no compulsory topics that must be addressed” in RSE – yet no directive was sent to schools to change course. While parents have been waiting for curriculum reform, gender-affirming healthcare advocates have found other routes in, such as this on scheduled to happen on Monday 25th May at Wellington High School.

“This is not an isolated incident. [LKBK] had previously been alerted that a separate organisation with strong gender ideology connections ‘Endo Warriors Aotearoa’ went to Wellington Girls’ High School. Two different schools. The same pattern. Read the full investigation at LKBK.

“If this concerns you, please share it. Every parent deserves to know who is accessing their child’s school – and why. LKBK is a parent-led advocacy network fighting to protect children from age inappropriate and ideologically driven content in New Zealand schools. Find your regional group at letkidsbekids.nz“.

  1. What happened to the mantra that doctors are supposed to abide by namely “First, do no harm”?
In a sane world these ‘PATHA doctors’ would have been hauled up before the Medical Council and had their licences revoked.

  2. Those with this extent of mental illness should not be let loose in society. A padded cell is the only appropriate place for these sick minded sub human voids.
