Peters tells RBNZ governor to stay out of US politics

Foreign Minister Winston Peters has criticised Reserve Bank Governor Anna Breman for involving herself in United States domestic politics after she signed a letter backing US Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell, saying the central bank should focus solely on New Zealand’s monetary policy.

In a social media post, Peters stressed that while the Reserve Bank of New Zealand is statutorily independent from government on monetary matters, it has no role in US politics and should not comment on them, adding that such advice would have come from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade had the governor sought it.

The Reserve Bank confirmed Breman did not seek ministerial approval before signing the letter, citing time constraints, and said it had no further comment. Earlier, the bank said Breman signed the statement in support of the principle of central bank independence, noting it had also been endorsed by 13 other central bank leaders worldwide following Powell’s claims that subpoenas against him are politically motivated.

The subpoenas relate to a criminal investigation focused on Powell’s congressional testimony about the renovation of the Federal Reserve’s headquarters in Washington. They seek documents and information connected to statements Powell made about the scope, cost, and management of the multi-billion-dollar refurbishment project, which has drawn criticism over cost overruns.

The inquiry is examining whether Powell’s testimony to Congress was accurate and whether any laws were breached, although no charges have been filed. Powell has said the investigation is a pretext and that the real motivation is retaliation for the Federal Reserve setting interest rates independently of political pressure.

  1. Powell is a globalist twat who kept interest rates artificially high because his masters don’t want anything that makes the orange man and his policies look good. He also may have committed legitimate crimes RE his congressional testimony – LEGITIMATE CRIMES SHOULD ALWAYS BE PROSECUTED.

Breman is an idiot for wading into it, but yeah she’s probably just doing what the same masters ordered. She’s a glorified strong whamen placeholder for the woke points anyway, in reality she runs nothing.

    • In the 1964 Reserve Bank of NZ Act, the Bank of England took ownership and made the NZ Government “Legal Owners”, which in equity means the NZ Government are the front as the “Trustees” for the Reserve Bank of NZ.
Look at the 1967 Reserve Bank of NZ Coat of Arms which came from the Most Noble Order of the Garter, stating that it shall be read within the Laws of Arms. This is actually the Laws of War as part of the Laws of Nations in which the coat of arms have to identify the parties involved.
The demi -griffin on top is of the Gray’s Law Inn within the “City of London”. The trap door or portcullis that it is holding represents Westminster Parliament/House of Lords. The Knights helmet represents the military orders of the Roman Catholic Church while the two lions on either side originate from the House of Habsburg in Austria and have descended through the Dutch House of Orange, Scottish Royalty, Church and Parliament. The crossed keys (Papal keys) represent the Vatican, the Maori head is of King Tawhiao, the wheat sheath and bulls head represent the guilds of London, the hanging sheep represents the Knights of the Golden Fleece, the Red Shield is of the Rothschilds and the Bank of England origin (who had brought up the stock in share swaps with the Reserve Bank in return for loans to the NZ Company in 1946), and the single masted ship represents the NZ Company along with the Scottish and Dutch origins which can be traced back to the Phoenicians. There is a much smaller coat of arms within the RBNZ 1965 Charter in which the Papal Keys are supported by the two laurels of the Roman Curia (Holy Roman Empire).

  2. Yes letting foreign groups, like the US FBI, openly operate on our sovereign soil, without the permission of the New Zealand people, is politician public servants jobs……

    Watch this space
The Reserve Bank still has 641 FTE (Full Time Equivalent) staff
Essentially unchanged since Adrian Orr in late 2024
Massive expansion happened during Orr’s tenure — from 255 to 641 FTE.
When an organisation reports 641 FTE, the actual number of human beings on payroll is usually higher, because FTE smooths part‑timers into “full‑time equivalents.”
The current workforce is likely 700+ people in real terms

The puzzling question is why Luxon appointed Willis, who can’t remember nor understand numbers, to finance minister?

Anna Breman (born 1976)[1] is a Swedish banker and economist. Anna Breman took up the position of governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand on 1 December 2025.[2][3] Her term of appointment to the RBNZ runs from 1 December 2025 to 30 November 2030. She was formerly the First Deputy Governor of the Sveriges Riksbank, the central bank of Sweden.[4][5]
    Education

Breman gained her BSc in Economics from Uppsala University in 2001, and her PhD in economics from Stockholm School of Economics in 2006. During her PhD, she attended Harvard University as a visiting graduate student. In 2006 she was a visiting researcher at the University of California, San Diego.[6][7]
    Career

Breman began her career at the World Bank as an intern and consultant for the Health, Nutrition and Population team. After completing her PhD studies, she joined the Swedish Ministry of Finance, then moved to Swedbank as a senior economist in the research department in 2013. Breman was named Group Chief Economist in 2015, and later also became Head of Macro Research in 2018.[8][9] In November 2019, following the departure of Kerstin af Jochnick in September of that year, Breman was appointed Deputy Governor of the Riksbank for a six-year term. She started her term on 1 December 2019.[4]
Governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand

On the 24 of September 2025, New Zealand Minister of Finance Nicola Willis announced that Breman had been appointed as the new (effective from 1 December 2025) Governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. She is the first woman and first foreign national to hold that post.[10][2][3]

In the first weeks of her tenure as Governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, Breman took a unique approach by addressing financial markets outside the Bank’s regular policy announcements, stating that market conditions had tightened beyond what was implied by the November Monetary Policy Statement, with wholesale interest rates and longer-term borrowing costs rising more than projected. She emphasised that the Official Cash Rate (OCR) was expected to remain at 2.25% if economic conditions evolved as projected, and that the Reserve Bank would continue to monitor financial conditions and their effects on households and businesses.[11][12][13]

In January 2026, Breman signed a joint statement by international central bankers expressing “full solidarity” with United States Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. The statement, issued amid an ongoing conflict between Powell and US President Donald Trump, included a US Department of Justice investigation and grand jury subpoenas related to Powell’s congressional testimony on Federal Reserve building renovations.[14] New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters criticized the move, stating the RBNZ “has no role, nor should it involve itself, in US domestic politics” and urging Breman to “stay in her New Zealand lane” and focus on domestic monetary policy. He noted she did not consult the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The RBNZ defended the signature as reflecting its strong commitment to central bank independence.[15]

  9. Of course she would support the federal reserve the same people that own that private company own our privately owned reserve bank. She is just another globalist puppet. luxon is just a globalist puppet as well, just like jabcinda.

  10. The problem here is that when any organisation or person gets their grubby little hands on others peoples money they spend it on crap that betters their way of life first and everything else is secondary.

Do you want to know how to fritter away $10,000 a year?

Just spend $27.40 on crap each day for 365 days.

There is simply no personal responsibility in government. No accountability. God only help us when the woke people get their hands on our money. And they did get control.

An example of this is the racist Maori party just want to legislate to channel money and land to themselves That is not governance. This generates nothing. It doesn’t make or fix roads. It doesn’t do anything for anyone except hand over money to one race so they have comfortable lives eat and shelter of themselve at other peoples expense. Do politicians agree to this? Well they have to get the votes to take control.

Except in the case of state owned enterprises which are generally run with the very same wasteful ideology, . There is no penalty for making a loss. Just a few politicians grandstanding In parliament or the media.

Electronic money created by someone typing numbers or a percentage on a keyboard connected to a computer is not wealth. It is control over over peoples spending habits. I guarantee when you have no money left, you stop spending or borrow or steal it or if you are government, write words on paper to take it from someone who earned it.

I want everyone to have live a comfortable life. Not becuase of their colour or perceived heritage. A heritage in which they found their neighbours, delicious.

Do something for someone or make something for someone is wealth creation .A long time ago New Zealanders used to do just that. That is when New Zealand punched above its weight. Proud we were and we had the right to be proud of how safe, how normal how our crime rate was low. There as not woke.

We do not need a large government fagging about pushing agnostic agendas.

Do you know in business i spend more time just trying to cope with shit churned out by government with severe eye watering penalties if I don’t file the right paperwork or upset some shitwit employee for behaving like a dickhead.

I like Winston when he steps out and is not afraid of putting people in their place. To some, he looks like a grumpy old man. That he may be, but he is an exceptionally wise to outcomes too. He is the most experienced leader, respected internationally and has the very best intentions for New Zealanders who aren’t dorks.

Lookimg forward to reading Winstons book after he retires .

A governor governs he or she is not political. She need to take this onboard and get on with fixing what isn’t working.
