Police release update on Pike River criminal investigation

Police are nearing the final stages of the criminal investigation into the first explosion at Pike River Mine in November 2010.

Detective Superintendent Darryl Sweeney says this nationally significant and unique investigation is legally complex and Police have been working alongside the Crown Solicitor Wellington for over 18 months.

“We acknowledge this year will be 16 years since the disaster.

“Before any decisions can be made, we will be conducting a further investigation phase.

“To protect the integrity of the investigation, we will not be providing specifics.

“However, I can say any further update is likely to be several months away.

“We appreciate questions over the time this investigation has taken, but Police are committed to exploring all possible lines of enquiry out of respect for the 29 miners and their families,” Detective Superintendent Sweeney says.

  1. 16 years no answer.. wonder if I’ll be alive to see the covid and mount manganui result…
16 years of tax payers wages for no results

  2. It is a terrible indictment on NZs only electable major party, that when i scrolled down i was greeted with the comments i expected.

I see Stanfords outstanding education changes and results are rightfully being promoted by National.

No mention of 3 other senior Ministers: Willis, Watts, and Simpson in the promotion.

    Wonder why.

  3. The Christchurch shooting, the Pike mine incident, and the now Mt maunganui landslip. Unfortunately, to me these together look like they are intentional with an evil ulterior behind them. We all know the Christchurch shooting was used to push hate speech laws, and diversity into pubic sector leadership. the mining incident … Im not sure but did this stop the mining as a result? Now Mt maunganui, where deep rooted trees that was planted to prevent landslips was removed … now what was the motive for this evil decision???

    • Rrrrracist PC BS bureaucratic nepotism!
And Drysdale does not even live in Tauranga! After ditching his paddle he held a show job as ‘advisor’ after a batchelor degree, but he never has worked a productive day in his life! Always sponsored to row backwards even now after being sponsored by the retarded Tauranga folk! He just approved a 16% payrise to earn close to 200K! Maybe he’s good at writing kiddie stories after retardement.
However, most punters do not even know how much more other echelons of Tauranga power rort earn: The CEO of the TCC, Marty Grenfell, earns…wait for it…over $ 623.000 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      Poor Mahe!

  4. Anonymous 3:16. AGREE!

Michelle Smire. None of those accidents were intentional. The corruption which is covering up who is responsible, is intentional.
