Napier Police have renewed their appeal for information as investigations continue into the water-related death of a five-year-old boy in Westshore, Napier earlier this month.

Detective Sergeant Kate Hyde said the child was reported missing sometime between 6pm and 8.30pm on Thursday 5 February before emergency services located him deceased in the water at about 1.30am the following morning.

Police have thanked members of the public who have already provided information and CCTV footage but are now seeking further assistance from anyone who may have seen an unattended child that evening.

Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with a group of four people who were riding bikes and walking near the corner of Fenwick Street and Fergusson Avenue around 7.30pm.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Police via 105 using reference number 260206/9567, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
