Police seek public help after series of vehicle break-ins in Lake Hāwea

Lake Hawea car thefts being investigated

Police are investigating multiple reports of vehicles being interfered with in Lake Hāwea and are asking for the public’s assistance to identify a man captured on CCTV.

The incidents occurred between midnight on Saturday 17 January and 5am on Sunday 18 January, during which eight cars were targeted. One vehicle was stolen and later recovered by Police.

The affected vehicles were parked on Capell Avenue, Paradise Place, Hewson Crescent, Little Maude Avenue, Lakeview Terrace, Grandview Road and Bell Street.

Police have also received reports of a vehicle doing burnouts and crashing in the area around 4am, although no report was made at the time.

Anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV footage or has information is asked to contact Police on 105, quoting file number 260118/4376, or provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
