Police seek witnesses in Pipiwai Christmas Eve incident

Police are appealing for information from two women who may have witnessed part of a concerning incident in the Pipiwai area in Northland on Christmas Eve.

According to Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer, the investigation stems from an event that began at approximately 3:25 PM on December 24, when a man reported being forced into a vehicle by a group of unknown individuals on Pipiwai Road.

The man was later released by the group but encountered them again while attempting to cross a single-lane bridge in the area. The road was reportedly blocked by those involved in the earlier incident, preventing the man from crossing.

During this time, another vehicle, carrying two women, approached the bridge and was allowed to pass through. The man briefly spoke with the women before they continued on their way.

Police believe these women may have vital information about the incident and are urging them to come forward.

“If you are one of these two women, or have information that may assist in our investigation, please contact Police,” Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Pilmer said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Police online or call 105, referencing file number 241225/0594. Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
