Conservation Minister Tama Potaka has scrapped plans in the Conservation Amendment Bill that would have allowed conservation land to be sold.
Potaka said he listened to public concerns and met with environmental groups before deciding to scrap the clauses. He also accepted responsibility for any confusion about the Bill.
Regional Development Minister Shane Jones said NZ First still supported using conservation land for economic development. Critics had argued the original provisions risked shifting conservation policy from protection to exploitation.
