Public Service Chief slams McSkimming’s ‘deceit’

Brian Roche news

Public Service Commissioner Sir Brian Roche says senior police figure Jevon McSkimming was a shameless liar who went to extreme lengths to conceal accusations against him, calling the damning IPCA report a wake-up call for the entire system.

Roche admitted in an interview with state-funded media today the commission should have probed further during McSkimming’s appointment but said the former assistant commissioner had built a long-standing, curated deception that evaded detection, even securing high-level security clearance.

Hiring processes have since been strengthened, including device checks and stricter disclosure rules.

Retired Assistant Police Commissioner Nick Perry said the failure to properly investigate complaints showed lessons from the Louise Nicholas era had not been fully learned, warning that bias and closed minds undermine investigations and leadership selection. Both he and the IPCA have urged stronger independent oversight of police, with the government now moving to establish an Inspector-General.

  1. Same problem we have with politicians and the rest of the government architecture, a basic LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRUE CONSEQUENCE FOR BAD BEHAVIOUR.

  2. In my view, Jevon McSkimming is not going to be the only big pig to fall. The police cover-up is at the highest levels of the police.

We do not yet have the names of these big pigs. You can bet politicians will eagerly hand over names of those involved. The core of the problem is police investigating police.

  3. THIS IS WHY YOU DO NOT TALK TO POLICE!!!!
If the senior leadership has been so deceitful, indirect and compromised, imagine what is happening to those who come into contact with the cops…and what the cops have been doing to ‘Targeted / Blacklisted’ ‘suspects’ & ‘subjects’.

    • Yes I agree you do not talk to police. Especially if you are young.

That said, I want to share with you when I talked to a detective. The detective questioned me about an historical allegation. I had an option of video but said no to that. I gave facts and it was handwritten down as was the complainant statement.

      I was arrested and charged.

After a very long time, it turned out the complainers typed version was different from the handwritten version. It clearly showed a huge change of evidence. The detective was shown to have misled the court and the case collapsed.

Citizens of New Zealand. I beg you not to believe the police. Many are corrupt to the core. Prosecuting cases using false evidence a detective created.

Imagine working with police who are that corrupt, they are prepared to send someone to jail with false evidence. The fall-out from this McSkimming horrific failure might reset the police for a while.

I bet individual police officers and staff will be trying to meet with each other to work out how to protect themselves from wrong doing. From criminal charges.

Judges were once lawyers. They would have seen such behaviour in the course of their lives. Judges, some are quick to the mark, others not so much.

Am I OK? Not really. It fades away for a time, then comes back to consume me. It damaged my faith in police forever.

Again, I beg you not to believe the police.
