Rescue effort underway for trapped cable car passengers in Whanganui – Updated

Emergency services are responding to a private cable car breakdown that has left three people and two dogs stranded above the Whanganui River.

The occupants called for help around 5pm after the car became stuck across the river on Whanganui River Road.

Police confirmed the incident and, along with fire crews, are at the scene working to safely bring everyone to safety.

Three people and two dogs were rescued unharmed after becoming trapped in a private cable car suspended over the Whanganui River. Emergency services responded to a call at 5pm, and Fire and Emergency confirmed the rescue was completed safely with no injuries.
