Reserve Bank hits pause of digital cash

reserve bank rbnz nzme 3

The Reserve Bank has put its proposed digital cash system on hold as it prioritises modernising payments systems.

The move followed a 2024 public consultation that attracted 18,000 online survey responses and 500 written submissions, overwhelmingly opposed to digital cash.

At the time, Newsroom framed the response on “conspiracy theories” and cited a researcher who blamed Voices for Freedom and RCR for running influential campaigns against CBDCs.

The Reserve Bank acknowledged strong public concerns about the issue, including fears that digital cash could replace physical cash, but claimed it would not. Last week, Labour pitched CBDCs as a way to lower the cost of living.

  1. “Fears that digital cash could replace physical cash” It’s already happening as some business already refuse to accept physical cash. I know at least two coffeeshops that refuse to take cash. And in both cases, I just walked out after telling them then you don’t get my business then.

  2. Well if its not replacing physical cash then there is no need to have it, if people want to pay via bank transfer or credit card then again there is no need for digital money unless there is a more sinister reason?

  3. That foul serpent-pit of smirking globalist reptiles perched on their gold and green luxury sofas in the waspnest are now barking out thru their slimy lying forked tongues that their wonderful digital currency agendas will “lower the cost of living”. Oh! Magically, a month from an election, these scumbag creeps suddenly want to lower the cost of living … Next will try telling you that, amazingly, their digital currency agenda will also “raise the cost of dying” … means when it gets too expensive to die then you just won’t be able to … Wow! Vote for them and stay alive forever! Quick!

  4. Digital currency hands complete dependence to government control.

    1. Control what product, services you purchase or sell.

    2. Some products or services can be restricted based upon age, volume or any reason the government of the day dreams up. Services can be travel, medical.

    3. A unique identification number will track every email, online post, your location, purchase. All sites visited.

This is not a decision any government can make without ongoing approval from citizens.

Think of a world where government has complete authority to decide what is best for them and no individual has a say in any matter.

Civil wars have be fought for independence from over the top totalitarianism and control over our lives. It may be argued governments who choose such draconian and individual control may, in the end face destruction.

Cash is independence and private. Digital currency is not. Use it or lose it.

  5. The ‘foreign’ Central Bank of New Zealand, masquerading as the ‘Reserve Bank of NZ’, can pack its bags and slither back to its British Rothschild’s origins, namely the Central Bank of England.
